What should I do if the rubber feet on my TUXEDO come loose?

This article explains how you can help prevent the rubber feet of your notebook from coming off over time, and what to do if this has already happened.

Rubber Feet

On the bottom of your TUXEDO notebook, you’ll find, depending on your model, rubber feet or strips. They provide stability and prevent your device from sliding around while you work. They also slightly elevate the laptop, allowing for some airflow underneath the device, which benefits cooling.

The rubber feet are attached to the bottom of the case using a strong adhesive. Over time, and due to constant lateral movement, the adhesive’s effectiveness may decrease, causing the feet to loosen or even fall off. Intensive use that causes the laptop’s case to become very warm increases this risk even more, as high temperatures can make the adhesive more pliable, temporarily reducing its strength.

Prevention

To protect these small but important components of your laptop, it’s important to be mindful when moving your device. Instead of sliding your laptop across the desk against the resistance of the rubber feet, we recommend briefly lifting the device with both hands and placing it where you need it. This simple habit can significantly reduce wear on the adhesive that holds the rubber feet in place, making a valuable contribution to maintaining the value and prolonging the lifespan of your laptop.

Repair

If your laptop’s rubber feet have already come off, you can reattach them using the steps below.

Super Glue

One option is to use a super glue, such as Loctite Precision Max Super Glue.
This allows you to quickly reattach the rubber feet. However, keep in mind that super glue hardens over time and may lose its adhesive strength due to the rubber’s flexibility.

Instead of using super glue, you can try a more sustainable method:

Remove the old adhesive from both the rubber foot and the corresponding spot on the bottom of the laptop. Use a soft cloth and, if needed, support the process with isopropyl alcohol.

Then, apply a layer of new adhesive to the rubber foot and let it dry slightly before attaching it to the laptop again. After attaching the foot, heat it with a hairdryer to help the glue bond better. Finally, place the laptop on a flat, hard surface, put a moderately heavy book on the closed display lid, and leave it for about 20 minutes so the glue can reach its optimal bonding strength.

Recommended adhesives for this process include:

  • T-8000 Universal Adhesive
  • 3M Scotch-Weld Dispersion Adhesive based on Polychloroprene

These adhesives provide a strong, long-lasting bond that is well-suited to the flexibility of the rubber feet.

What to do in case of loss?
