What functions does myTUXEDO Cloud provide?

With the purchase of a device from TUXEDO Computers, you as a customer receive 10 GB of storage space in the myTUXEDO Cloud free of charge. This article presents the available functions of the myTUXEDO Cloud.

We have already introduced the myTUXEDO Cloud in an earlier article. Other articles describe the additional security by means of 2FA and TOTP as well as the possibility of merging the clouds of several devices.

What functions does the myTUXEDO Cloud provide?

This article explains which apps and functions myTUXEDO Cloud offers you in detail. TUXEDO’s cloud offering is based on the proven collaboration software Nextcloud and offers much of its functionality. To prevent an outflow of your data abroad, we store it exclusively in Germany.

After logging into your myTUXEDO cloud, you will see icons for the available components in the top right of the bar next to the TUXEDO logo. If you move the mouse over them, the names for the components appear under the icons. These are, from left to right, Files, Photos, Activity, Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Audio Player, Notes, Bookmarks and Tasks. We will briefly introduce them one by one.

Files

The menu item Files lists all the directories and files stored in your cloud. The default view is the list view, which you can switch to the grid view via the icon with the four squares at the top right.

In the navigation sidebar on the left, the menu items All Files, Recent, Favorites and Shares are available at the top for sorting. These are self-explanatory. At the bottom of the sidebar is the recycle bin and an indication of how much storage space of your 10 GB you are currently using. The menu item Files settings allows you to view hidden files and crop image previews.

By checking Show rich workspaces, you deactivate the note section above the file display. The URL displayed under the item WebDAV is used to access your files directly from your file manager via WebDAV.

The three icons to the right of the menu item All Files are used from left to right to hide the sidebar, to return to the menu item Files when you are in a subfolder. The plus sign houses the sub-items Upload file, New folder, New text file, Set up template folder and Add description. The templates already contain some examples, more can be created. In the subfolders of Files, a well-equipped editor is available for editing the documents contained therein.

Each file can be shared. To do this, you will find an icon on the left. Documents that have already been shared are marked accordingly. Behind the menu with the three dots are further options, such as for copying or moving, downloading or deleting the selected file.

Photos

The main menu item Photos is used to manage the photos and videos saved under Files/Photos. Here you can set favourites, sort your photos into folders you have created yourself and display the locations where the photos were taken on a map, provided the photo file contains the corresponding geo-coordinates.

Activities

Under the item Activity you always have an overview of the last activities that you or other users have carried out. Various views are available in the sidebar. In addition, you can see which files have been changed or released and you can turn activities into tasks, enter them in the calendar or comment on them. Under Activity settings you can subscribe to the activities as an RSS feed.

Mail, Contacts and Calendars

The apps for mail, contacts and calendar are largely self-explanatory. Mail covers the basic functionality, but does not support filter-rules or other advanced functions. Contacts and Calendar are somewhat better positioned in terms of functionality and cover everything necessary up to import and export.

Audio Player

The Audio Player plays audio files as expected. You can add audio files previously uploaded to your cloud to the app via the Add new tracks to library button. Playlists and album covers are supported. The formats played are mpeg, mp4, ogg, wav, flac and aac.

Notes

Notes is a simple app and allows notes to be created as text (txt) or formatted in the Markdown markup language (md). After installing the mobile app from F-Droid, Google Play or Apple’s App Store, the notes can be synchronized and also created and edited on the move.

Bookmarks

The Bookmarks app can be used to manage bookmarks. They can be sorted into folders, tagged and shared. Duplicates are displayed. The app regularly checks the availability of URLs and displays links that are not accessible. You can import and export bookmarks or synchronise them with the browser.

Tasks

With the Tasks app, you can add and delete tasks, edit their title, description, start date and due date, and mark them as important.

More features

Regardless of which module you are currently in, there are three icons for general functions in the bar at the top right. These are a general search function, a search for contacts and general settings for the logged-in visitor.

Among other things, personal information can be stored there, various methods for authentication can be defined and options for notifications can be determined.

myTUXEDO on desktop and mobile

As with Nextcloud, you can control your myTUXEDO Cloud via the apps Nextcloud Desktop Client for Linux, macOS and Windows as well as apps for Android and iOS. The apps can manage multiple instances of Nextcloud. So if you already use one of the apps for a Nextcloud instance, simply enter your myTUXEDO Cloud there as well. For more information, see the Nextcloud documentation.

And now enjoy your myTUXEDO Cloud.
