The "Red Goblin" can pick up pace

A lot of work goes into the construction of a vehicle, the Formula Student team StarkStrom can definitely confirm that. All the more everyone involved was eagerly awaiting the rollout to finally be able to present the finished vehicle. On June 15, the time had come: On a hot summer evening, the team members, sponsors, parents and relatives of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences gathered first outside, then in the university lecture hall in the Sigma Techno Park, Augsburg.

"Augsburgers stick together! "

The festivities began with introductory words from the board in the form of Kitty Horn, who first addressed the parents of the students and apologized on behalf of the team. Apologized for the fact that the children were often not present on weekends or for family celebrations, but in the workshop and with the team to further advance the joint project Formula Student.

When Kitty Horn had finished her speech, there was applause and the Vice President of Augsburg Technical University welcomed the guests present. The latter commented favorably on the project and, as a conclusion to the welcome, Annika Litzel, Marketing Manager of TUXEDO, the new main sponsor of the FormulaStudent team, did not miss the opportunity to talk about how the team and the company had found each other: "The cooperation between StarkStrom and TUXEDO is entirely under the motto: "Augsburgers stick together!"

Furthermore, the cooperation runs smoothly because they are in direct proximity to each other and they find each other congenial. Even before that, the manager was impressed by so much passion on the part of the students and urged them to maintain their passion even after they have completed their studies, because this attitude helps them to progress personally.

Keeping the tension high: Many innovations!

Now it was possible to move on to the main part and two other team members led through the evening. First, videos of the individual areas were shown, explaining what the field of activity is and what changes have been made in the current season. This was followed by a Q&A session with the team leaders and the professors.

For example, the cooling system has been optimized in the mechanical engineering area, so that they have now switched from a conventional open system to a closed system. The biggest visible changes have been made to the aerodynamics package, as the sidewing has been revised and the front wing, splitter and rear wing have been redeveloped.

In terms of software, Tim Guttzeit, Technical Director Software, said that the focus is on a robust software stack in which existing systems are refined and the biggest problem areas are eliminated. Thanks to the main sponsor TUXEDO, it was possible to increase the computing power and by using the board of the Stellaris 15 Gen4, a lot of space was saved in the vehicle.

The racecar for the 2023 season: "Red Goblin"

This was followed by the ceremonial unveiling of the car with shouts and cheers from the team and applause. As the main sponsor, it did not escape TUXEDO's attention that the colors of the race car matched those of TUXEDO. From the hardware manufacturer's point of view, this underlines even more the cohesion between the students and the Augsburg-based company.

The vehicle was also christened. According to good tradition of the racing team, a character of the Augsburger Puppenkiste is always the godfather for this: In this case, the "Red Goblin" was chosen and the corresponding story was told over loudspeakers. TUXEDO also smiled at this, as the company has its own "Kobold" - the software helper Tomte, who makes sure that TUXEDO devices are configured correctly and that missing drivers or packages are installed without the user having to do anything.

The festive mood was also followed by the closer inspection of the vehicle by the invited guests and the cozy get-together with food and drinks as well as stimulating conversations. The party went on until late into the night, as the relief among the students was great. Now everything still has to work in the races and the title has to be successfully defended.
