Chassis quality

This category includes our evaluation of the general quality, workmanship and stability of the chassis, keyboard and touchpad.

We take into account properties such as the torsional rigidity of the chassis base and display, keyboard flexing, the stiffness of the hinges, the materials used and the overall haptic impression.

CPU performance

This rating shows the maximum CPU performance resulting from the fastest processor option available for this TUXEDO on the one hand and the power consumption that the cooling system is able to dissipate on the other.

The »Central Processing Unit« is the most important component of a computer and determines the overall performance of your TUXEDO. The CPU performance results from the amount of computing cores, so-called CPU cores, and their respective clock speeds. The same processor usually runs with lower performance on thin and light notebooks than on thicker machines due to less cooling capacity.

For surfing the web, checking emails or less demaning productive work, a low-end CPU performance is fully sufficient. Some image editing or cutting video files require a performance indicator of at least 30 %.

For more demanding image and video editing, software development or playing games, we recommend a mid-tier processor (50% or better). Highly demanding tasks like 4K video editing with filters and effects, modeling 3D animations with high polycounts or high-end gaming require an upperclass CPU with at least 70% performance rating.

Graphics performance

This rating shows the maximum graphics performance resulting from the fastest GPU option available on the one hand and the power consumption that the cooling system is able to dissipate on the other.

The graphics card is responsible for processing and rendering all visual contents on the screen. For surfing the web, writing emails or less demanding productive work, low graphics performance is fully sufficient. Image editing with certain effects or cutting videos can benefit from a faster graphics card and recommend a performance indicator of at least 30 %.

For more demanding video editing in 1080p resolution or higher, 3D modeling or mainstream gaming, we recommend a mid-tier graphics card (50 % or better). Very demanding tasks like video rendering in 4K with many filters and effects, working in big 3D CAD scenes or gaming in max quality settings and 2560x1600 pixels resolution require a performance indicator of at least 70 %.

Acoustic comfort

This rating combines internal measurements of thermals (fan noise and temperatures) of the most powerful hardware configuration under the following three exemplary usage scenarios:

Please note that you can adjust performance and fan settings to your preferences using our inhouse-developed and pre-installed TUXEDO Control Center. Lower fan speeds lead to higher temperatures and - if neccessary - to an automatic reduction in system performance (thermal throttling).

Thin and light notebooks usually have less cooling capacity compared to thicker devices and have to compensate this by running the fans more frequently and faster (= louder).

Mobility

This rating shows our evaluation of the portability factor based on chassis dimensions and weight (notebook and power supply).

Your actual portability requirement depends on your usage profile: If you rarely carry your TUXEDO over longer distances, »desktop replacement notebooks« (mobility score: ~50%) offer the best balance of portability and cooling for better performance or quieter fans compared to thinner and lighter devices.

If you intend to regularly carry your TUXEDO over longer distances at a stretch, we recommend a notebook weight (without power supply) of under 2.3 kg (Mobilität: ~70 %) - of course at the expense of performance and/or fan noise.

If performance (and possibly fan noise comfort) plays a very minor role and your TUXEDO should act as constant companion more time under your arm or in your bag than on your desk, a very light Linux notebook (less than 1.8 kg; mobility: 80% or higher) is a good choice.

Battery life

This rating shows internal battery life measurements under the following three exemplary usage scenarios:

Intel Core i9-14900HX with 24 cores!

Masterclass-Multitasking: With a whole 24 cpu cores (consisting of 8 performance-optimized 16 efficiency-optimized cores), the Intel Core i9-14900HX is a top-class computing powerhouse! With single-core speeds of up to 5.8 GHz, the Core i9-14900HX is also an excellent choice for gaming.

Specified with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 45 watts (minimum) up to 157 watts (maximum Turbo power draw) the actual performance depends on the individual laptop's cooling solution:

Despite or because of its very thin chassis, the Stellaris 15 Slim places itself on an upper midfield TDP position, supplying the Core i9-14900HX with up to 100 watts continuously with the fans maxed out.

If your preference is for even more power or for lower fan noise instead of maximum mobility, the Stellaris 16 and Stellaris 17 run either faster (~120 watts) or quieter and cooler.

Fast NVIDIA graphics for work & play!

For high framerates in games and fast GPU renderings, the Stellaris Slim 15 is powered by NVIDIA graphics processing units in the form of the GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070.

But that's not all: While NVIDIA defines a huge range of performance levels between 35 and 115 watts, the Stellaris Slim 15 comes only with the fastest 115 watt variants!

For high fps gaming in FullHD or high graphics settings in the Stellaris Slim's native 2560x1600 display resolution, the GeForce RTX 4060 with 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM convinces with a great price-performance ratio.

The GeForce RTX 4070 - equipped with the same amount of dedicated video memory - runs graphics calculations faster and - by consuming the same 115 watts of power like its smaller sibling - more efficient by around 15 %.

Depending on the application running and the CPU's workload, both graphics processors can automatically shift up to 25 watts of power from the CPU to the GPU to maximise graphics performance via Dynamic Boost.

Elegant, high-quality aluminum chassis in fashionable ultra slim design

Sleek eye-catcher: The Stellaris Slim 15's focus is on a fashionable style factor featuring a lightweight, matt black all-aluminum enclosure that is not unlikely to attract attention around you in your favorite café.

The 2.1 kg light and 2.2 cm thin dark metal case impresses with an elegant, pleasantly understated appearance without gamery design accents, which qualifies the Linux ultrabook for professional use. In combination with its very high-quality finish, the Stellaris Slim 15's chassis aims for a first-class overall impression.

Despite its compact footprint of 34.2 x 24.5 cm, the 15.3-inch Linux laptop integrates a fully-sized, quiet keyboard equipped with a four-column number pad and large arrow keys in offset position for better ergonomics. The glass precision touchpad measures 12.3 x 7.8 cm and has a pleasantly smooth surface for convenient navigation on the go.

Compact and bright 15.3-inch display for gaming und content creation

Stellaris Slim 15 is the first TUXEDO to come with a brand-new 15.3-inch display, which closes the gap between the very compact but somewhat limited screen area of the 14-inch form factor and the slightly larger 16-inch format.

With a high-dpi resolution of 2560x1600 pixels, a refresh rate of 240 Hz and Adaptive Sync, the panel also meets the needs of demanding gamers, while professionals benefit from the work-friendly 16:10 aspect ratio, 100% sRGB color space coverage and a brightness of around 500 nits for even better legibility in bright indoor or outdoor environments.

The up to 180° tiltable display lid offers maximum flexibility for all kind of laptop stands while the privacy webcam shutter prevents the unauthorized access to the 1080p webcam.

Maximally large 99 Wh battery for up to 10 hours of runtime

Besides its fashionable style factor, the Stellaris Slim 15's focus is on maximum portability in its performance class. For this, the Linux gaming ultrabook features a 99 Wh battery which is the maximum allowed for taking a laptop on an airplane. It provides the Linux laptop with battery life for up to 8 hours at websurfing and around 10 hours for local video playback with reduced display brightness.

When the internally screwed battery finally comes to its end of battery life, it can be either charged via the original and relatively compact 280 watts GaN power supply or via the USB-C Power Delivery standard (100 watts; 20V/5A) when the high-performance laptop is intended to be used under low loads.

For an energy-saving operation, we recommend our pre-set, tuned power profiles as well as the manual settings for CPU power limit control (TDP) in our self-developed and on your TUXEDO laptop pre-installed TUXEDO Control Center.

Cooling in the smallest space

As fashionable »Thin & Light Gaming Laptop«, Stellaris Slim 15 focuses on a maximally thin and very lightweight chassis while still featuring high-performance components.

160 watts on under 1 cm z-height: In order to push the heat generated by up to 160 watts (CPU + GPU) out of the sides and back of the chassis, the ultra slim gaming notebook integrates four heatpipes and two 8 mm fans. For comparison: A tiny 1 Euro Cent coin is twice as large in diameter!

It is no surprise that power-hungry high-performance components in a thin laptop take their toll in the form of high fan noise and temperatures under load. If your preference is for better thermals instead of highest portability, the Stellaris 16 and Stellaris 17 run quieter and cooler than Stellaris Slim 15 while delivering the same performance.

Up to 8 TB SSD storage and 96 GB DDR5 RAM

Of course, the TUXEDO Stellaris Slim 15 does not have to do without removable SO-DIMM RAM or expandable SSD mass storage.

After removing the chassis bottom panel, which is covered by the warranty, two M.2 SSDs for up to 8 terabytes with PCIe 4.0 high-speed connection are equally accessible for replacement as two upgradeable RAM slots for up to 96 GB of fast DDR5 RAM with a clock rate of up to 5200 MHz.

For even more storage space, you get 10 GB myTUXEDO cloud storage for free with every TUXEDO laptop or PC. This way, you can access your data conveniently and securely (encrypted and hosted in compliance with german data protection regulations) at any time from anywhere and with any Internet-capable laptop, PC or smartphone.

Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C charging

As particularly lightweight and portable high-performance laptop, the Stellaris Slim 15 features the option of charging the battery via a handy USB-C power supply (Power Delivery DC-In; 100 watts (20 V / 5 A)), if you intend to use your Stellaris Slim 15 under low load only.

Two external high-resolution monitors can be connected via HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 1.4a. The latter offers the option of connecting a third monitor for a total of 4 screens including notebook display via MST splitter (not tested).

On the data side, 3x USB type A as well as an additional USB-C data port and full-size card reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC) are available. Connectivity is completed by the obligatory audio combo jack and RJ 45 LAN.
