Saving lives with TUXEDO
device for "mobile emergency simulation center"

The Bavarian Red Cross in the city of Neustadt near Coburg was delighted to receive an InfinityBook Pro 14 - Gen6 for its "mobile emergency simulation center" project. Chairman of the "Helfer vor Ort Neustadt bei Coburg e. V." association Michael Stelzner and his colleague Lukas Hackl received the device in person from TUXEDO Managing Director Herbert Feiler in Augsburg.

Pilot project in Neustadt near Coburg

Together with the "Förderverein Helfer vor Ort", the BRK Neustadt near Coburg is planning a pilot project for the training and further education of volunteer emergency medical and rescue services, which is currently unique in Germany. Especially in rural areas, local helpers are deployed to bridge waiting times until emergency vehicles can be on site. They work on a voluntary basis and require regular professional training.

Linux computer searched and found

In the mobile simulation center, all emergency care provided to the patient (or simulator) by the helpers on site or medical teams will be documented with a special system using audio and video sequences and evaluated by a trainer. The entire exercise is transmitted live to a debriefing room.

A mobile laptop with a Linux operating system was therefore required for the Technology and IT department. This is used to control small LCD displays on medical devices for simulation via digital signage. The media applications will also be controlled in the future.

"We looked at the requirements and were able to find a suitable device quite quickly," explains Herbert Feiler, Managing Director of TUXEDO. "We equipped the previous-generation InfinityBook 14 with 32 GB RAM, 500 GB storage, an Intel Core i7-1165G7 and pre-installed the device with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, as requested by BRK Coburg."

See and not just imagine

Michael Stelzner explains: "With the help of the laptop, we are now able to present emergency training for our volunteer paramedics even more realistically. Previously, we were only able to simulate vital signs such as oxygen saturation in the blood or blood sugar levels. The instructor then had to tell the trainees to imagine that the oxygen saturation value was now valued XY. Now people see it live on a real measuring device, on which only a thin LCD sign has been stuck to the screen. These signs are now controlled by the TUXEDO laptop." And he continues: "Especially for young paramedics in training, it is important to see vital signs that do not correspond to a healthy person in order to achieve an "aha effect". If you can only practice this in the field, it's too late. The InfinityBook 14 from TUXEDO is therefore extremely important for the training of our emergency services."

Due to the innovation and the great benefits for society, this project is also supported with funding from the EU, the Free State of Bavaria and well-known large foundations - and now also from TUXEDO.

Support for associations and non-profit organisations

We are very happy to support organisations and non-profit institutions in switching to Linux. Especially in view of the fact that Microsoft will discontinue support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, Linux is becoming increasingly important. Without the Linux operating system, millions of powerful PCs would become unpatched IT security risks or expensive and completely unnecessary electronic waste. Pay attention to the sustainability of free software when purchasing IT equipment. For advice and offers contact, please contact our sales department directly.
