KDE Plasma 6 is just around the corner

As you probably already know, TUXEDO OS uses KDE’s Plasma desktop to provide you with an attractive interface for working with your TUXEDO notebook or PC. As we recently reported in detail, development on the sixth generation of this feature-rich desktop environment is almost complete, with no release date yet.

Release date announced

This has now changed, because in his monthly Update on the state of development of Plasma 6, KDE developer Nate Graham reveals that a date has been set for the release. Plasma 6 is to be released at the beginning of February 2024, without a date having been set yet.

Bug Squashing

There is still work to be done, but Nate Graham is confident that five months will be enough to continue the KDE Plasma story with a solid release. As of early September, 75 bugs remain, with 15 of them being release-critical. That means, they need to be resolved before release.

According to Graham, the current status is the penultimate stage 4 of the roadmap. So look forward with us to the sixth generation of the plasma desktop, which we will make available to you as a normal update for TUXEDO OS after a test phase.
