Improvements to sleep mode

If the sleep mode of your TUXEDO Book does not function satisfactorily, you will find a solution here.

Affects TUXEDO Books:

  • XP1610, XP1710

Affects Operating Systems:

  • TUXEDO_OS 18.04, Ubuntu 18.04
  • before Kernel 5.3
  • with NVIDIA-Driver

Solution

  • Start the tool for software and drivers. The fastest way to do this is to search for Software in the main menu or click on Software.
  • In this tool, click on the program icon in the upper left corner and then on Applications & Updates.
  • In the Other Programs tab, please check whether the TUXEDO package sources are configured and active.
In the unlikely event that these are missing, separate instructions are available online.
  • In the Additional Drivers tab, you will see the NVIDIA Corporation section and select the nvidia-driver-440 driver. Click Apply to confirm and close the window.
  • As a second step please install the tuxedo-audio-suspend-fix via the software administration Synaptic. Detailed instructions for installing the software are also available online.
Alternatively, the package can also be installed with the following terminal command: sudo apt install -y tuxedo-audio-suspend-fix

After restarting your TUXEDO book, the sleep mode works as desired!

Further symptoms

If you have previously run the above procedure described above on TUXEDO_OS and Ubuntu 18.04.3, the following behavior may occur after upgrading to kernel v5.0.0.37:

  • Login screen blocked, shows no image and only a mouse pointer
  • When the touchpad is touched, the login screen appears
  • The desktop does not appear, only a mouse pointer is visible
  • When the touchpad is touched, the desktop appears
  • A so-called kworker thread blocks resources and the entire CPU, causing the system to become slow, programs cannot be started and hibernation is no longer possible
  • This happens and is particularly noticeable in battery operation, especially when the battery charge level is low

Solution

Update the package tuxedo-audio-suspend-fix to version 1.4 and restart your TUXEDO Book afterwards. This is possible via the graphical software management as well as via the terminal.
