CAD Courses, Administration, Programming – TUXEDOs in Use at Habitat

At the end of 2024, TUXEDO, as a sponsor of the maker space "Das Habitat" in Augsburg, provided several laptops, monitors, and various accessories. Now that the first few months of the year have passed, it’s time to check in with Habitat to see how the TUXEDOs are being used.

CAD Courses, 3D Replacement Part Design, and General Tasks

The devices have already been integrated into the organization's internal network and are available for a variety of tasks. The TUXEDO Sirius 16, for example, is being used for both image editing and as a workstation for CAD courses. Additionally, it’s used to design 3D parts for spare part production. The TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro 14 is currently stationed at the front desk, paired with a monitor, docking station, and external keyboard. It’s primarily used for managing the open workshop operations. Personal data is entered and invoices are generated on it. The Team_Theke (Front Desk Team) also uses the device to develop workflows and internal processes.

“The front desk is where people first arrive at our open workshop. Team_Theke not only keeps an overview of all processes, but is also responsible for welcoming users. They also handle the technical onboarding process and organize our 'Hallo_Habitat,' a quarterly event where we introduce Habitat to interested visitors and get to know potential members,” explains Sven Ten Pas.

At the Repair Café, the TUXEDO Aura 14 is mainly used for recording data of repaired devices. It also serves as a storage hub for photos taken during Repair Café sessions.

Working in the Coworking Area

Most of the docking stations and monitors can be found at the workstations located on what’s known as the “Bridge.” This is where the front desk operates, but members can also work here during the day in the coworking space. Since March, one of these workstations has been made available to Habitat’s new staff member.

In the evenings and on weekends, these workstations are used by open workshop participants to prepare files for the laser cutter, create cutting plans, or ready 3D print files.

At the end of February, a Habitat workshop took place in downtown Augsburg. The TUXEDO Sirius 16 was used there to design 3D replacement parts. Currently, a go-kart is being motorized using components from a dismantled hoverboard. One of the members used a TUXEDO laptop to program the board for this purpose.
